Bio Sketch

Shannon Venance, MD PhD, FRCPC earned her PhD from Queen's University in 1993 and her MD from the University of Ottawa in 1997. Neurology residency training was completed at the University of Ottawa, followed by a Neuromuscular Fellowship at London Health Sciences Centre and muscle fellowship at the University of Rochester, NY.

Dr Venance joined the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University in 2004. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010. Her clinical expertise is in disorders of muscle, and she collaborates with a diverse group of health professionals in the investigation and management of individuals with muscle disorders. She received her certification as an electromyographer by the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists in 2003. Dr. Venance is a highly engaged clinician teacher - teaching and learning through the spectrum of undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education.

Research

Dr. Venance's interests lie in patient-centered clinical research involving qualitative methodologies and clinical trials in muscle diseases. She is a member of the Muscle Study Group, the Canadian Neuromuscular Group and a site investigator for the Canadian Neuromuscular Disease Registry.
